Anyone here use a rabbit tractor?

My first chicken tractor was way over engineered, thought I would need it heavy duty to keep the coon out.

Any how we could not drag it through the garden without hooking the lawn tractor up to it/w a long rope.

I am thinking about putting wire mesh on the bottom of the tractor and using it to feed out rabbits. Simply drag the tractor across the pasture after they have eaten it down. Any one tried this?

Why use a Rabbit when you can have a Deere?

Gerbils, when properly geared up right and using a whip will beat a Deere any day!

As someone else mentioned, the wire bottom pushes down the grass. They will still nibble between the mesh, but can't get it all.

Joel Salatin uses rabbit tractors with no bottom, but he lays wire down on the ground to keep them from digging out. Every 3-4 years he needs to lay down more, because the soil has "uppened" to the point where the rabbits could dig out.

We use hoophouses -- same as we use for chickens -- as rabbit tractors with no wire on the bottoms. The key is to move them frequently and not to overstock them. A small group of rabbits will consume a tremendous amount of pasture very quickly and once they run out of food, they will start to dig for 'greener pastures' (sorry, couldn't resist). We had a few problems with escapees early on, but once we got things rolling we had no problems at all with attempts to dig out.

So just keep it moving and they won't dig out, that's great. When you say don't over stock them how many sq foot per animal?

Isn't it possible to just put a border of wire around on the ground on the perimeter - like 12" in? Or will the rabbits figure that out?

If a wrabbit is given a chance to dig, dig they
will , down and out.

When living in kalifornia back when, some people
in the neighborhood kept them in a fenced in
back yard, and not in cages, The yard looked
like swiss cheese with all the holes and tunnels.
